FAQs
FAQ for Wind Turbine
1. Are wind turbines cost effective?
With the price of electricity always going up, the California rebates that are available, the financing that we have can make it very cost effective.
2. How much does a wind turbine cost?
Turbines can range from $25,000 to more than $500,000 depending on your energy needs and installation costs.
3. How much land do I need to have a wind turbine?
Ideally you need at least 2 acres and a clear path to the wind at 40-60 ft. up in the air.
4. Are wind turbines noisy?
The huge turbines on wind farms create some noise, for the units we install, the wind is louder than they are.
5. Is it a problem to interconnect with the utility company?
It is a tedious and complex process that involves a great deal of paperwork, but since we handle everything for you, it is not something you will have to deal with.
6. Do turbines interfere with television and other forms of communication?
No, that is an urban myth.
7. Will I have electricity during a power outage by using your turbine?
No. Virtually all of our units are grid interconnected. They automatically shut off during power outages to protect the safety of utility repair crews. If the units ran during a power outage, it would back feed the line and possibly electrocute a repairman.
8. Do your units require maintenance? We found several on the Internet that were advertised as maintenance-free.
Yes, all of our turbines require maintenance. Service and maintenance is furnished by Heritage Green Energy Systems at no charge for the first year. We also offer an extended service and maintenance agreement. Anything mechanical requires scheduled maintenance
9. How long will my unit last?
With proper placement and scheduled maintenance, it is not unreasonable to expect a 30-year life before a major overhaul.
10. Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy and install a wind turbine on our own? Why should we have Heritage Green Energy Systems do it?
No, it wouldn't be cheaper. You will most likely spend more money attempting to do the project yourself. If you're a "do-it-yourselfer" on unfamiliar terrain, you are at the mercy of the people you're hiring for a one-time deal-these are people who are probably not experienced in wind turbine projects.
Consider the following:
Paperwork and applications will consist of zoning, permits, an interconnection agreement, financing, and insurance
Engineering for your soil and foundation, site placement, and electrical wiring
Equipment organization, like a crane and operator, backhoe, trencher and specialized tools, such as 1400 pound torque wrenches, spud wrenches, and a concrete vibrator.
Hiring workers experienced in the following trades: dirt excavation, concrete, heavy equipment, steel erection (160 feet in the air), electrical wiring, turbine assembly and adjustment.
You would not be eligible for the California Energy Commissions Emerging Renewable Program rebates of up to $52,500
At surface level, a "do-it-yourself" project may seem cheaper, but when you add up the specialized trades and required equipment-you're far better off using Heritage Green Energy Systems.
FAQ for Biodiesel
1. Why make your own biodiesel?
Biodiesel fuel is better for the environment. And we are all trying to reduce our carbon footprint. Also, since it is made by renewable resources, we decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
2. Can biodiesel be used on any diesel engine?
Biodiesel can be used in any diesel engine with little to no modification of the engine or fuel system.
3. How do the emissions differ from petroleum diesel?
You get much lower emissions from biodiesel. Again, making it better for the environment.
4. What about the toxicity of biodiesel?
Biodiesel is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades as fast as sugar.
5. How does the cost of biodiesel compare to the cost of petroleum diesel?
Biodiesel is significantly less expensive than petroleum diesel
6. Does it need to be blended with petroleum diesel?
It can be, but does not need to be, blended with petroleum diesel.
7. What makes our biodiesel cleaner?
A redundant 5-micron filtration system makes it cleaner. Our fuel has inherent detergent-like characteristics that break down carbon buildup, petroleum plaques & varnishes.
8. Does Farm Boy fuel meet EPA standards?
Absolutely. Our patented Dry Ionization Fuel Scrubbing System removes water molecules that cause gelling. This helps our fuel meet EPA standards, allowing for the Federal tax credit of $1.00-$.50/gal, legal road use and the ability to resell.
9. How often do I need to purchase methanol for the system?
With our methanol recovery system, you can salvage and reuse up to 55% of the methanol per batch.
10. How safe is the Farm Boy Fuel Hand?
The Farm Boy Fuel Hand has a high-capacity, explosion proof motor. This is necessary in case of a methanol leak.
11. Will I have loss of power using biodiesel?
Not at all. Your motor will run quieter and more efficiently. With proper maintenance, you will have no power loss because of better lubricity and cleaner fuel which reduces valve and fuel pump system chatter.
