Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit:
On October 3, 2008 Congress extended the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the federal tax credit for residential energy property initially applied only to solar-electric systems, solar water heating systems and fuel cells. The Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008 (H.R. 1424, Division B) extended the tax credit to small wind energy systems and geothermal heat pumps, effective January 1, 2008.
Taxpayers may claim a credit for qualified expenditures for a system that serves a home used as a residence by the taxpayer. The home served by the system does not have to be the taxpayer's principal residence. Expenditures include equipment, labor costs for onsite preparation, assembly, or original system installation and for piping or wiring to interconnect a system to the home.
Maximum incentive for Small Wind: $500 per 0.5 kW, up to $4,000.
Excess credit may be carried forward to succeeding tax year.
Green Tags: Green Tags or Renewable Energy Certificates are created when a renewable energy facility (turbine owner) produces electricity. The certificates are traded through brokers, like stocks.
Buyers of the credits are helping to support the production of renewable energy, many times without directly using the energy produced.
Heritage Green Energy will pool all of our customer's green tags and sell them on the open market. You will receive a check at the end of each year for your green tags.

California Assembly Bill 1920:
We are keeping an eye on the bill introduced in February of this year and is currently before the Senate Appropriations Committee. This bill would require utility companies to provide compensation for any net surplus electricity generated in a 12-month period or allow for a credit during the following 12-month period..
